From the day that the powerful, brave and merciless Vlad III Basarab, a descendant of the Draculesti family—better known to most people as the infamous vampire Dracula—ascends the throne, he knows only battles, betrayal and intrigue.
Evil grips the town of Targoviste, capital residence of Walachia. The secrets behind the stone walls of the palace are as dark and violent as a winter’s night, as terrifying as the prince’s deeds. Dead bodies, drained of blood and missing their little finger keep appearing in the streets at night.
Lovely, smart, determined, Angela Oltenescu ignores all the aggressive rumors and her mother’s warning regarding Vlad. Will she suffer the consequences of falling in love with a man nicknamed Dracula by his enemies—an infamous creature of the night?
Rich, sly, treacherous, Marin Craioveanu, a powerful landlord, craves the same woman loved by Vlad. Marin's hatred toward the prince will make him an ally to Handsome Radu, Vlad’s brother and Sultan’s friend, ready to sell the country to the Ottomans to get rid of his rival.
Dracula’s Mistress will awe legions of fans of Gothic literature, paranormal and historical fiction.

Dracula Mistress eBook Carmen Stefanescu Reviews
Just reading the blurb gave me tingles. I wasn't disappointed either. This is a great story, which the author has created with style and a deep sense of commitment to her craft. And, who doesn't love a protagonist who knows her own mind, and despite warnings launches herself into danger and perhaps love. Angela Oltenescu is a great character which, I'm sure, many women will identify with in their own way.
I really enjoyed this book, and am happy to recommend it.
Dracula’s Mistress recreates the fascinating, chaotic world of Vlad the Impaler. Both his personal life and the larger stage of politics and power were richly drawn. Although his memory comes down through time as the legendary Dracula, Vlad’s life and times contained so much more. The novel has wonderful elements of romance and touches of the supernatural superimposed upon the exquisitely written historical fiction. I enjoyed every moment of the book. One of my favorite lines is All present bowed deeply as if felled by the harvester’s scythe. Another is Darkness settled its heavy wings over the castle. The dark and brooding atmosphere of the novel underlies and defines the historical elements. Only Carmen Stefanescu could write this one.
Couldn’t get into it.
Dracula's Mistress is a fascinating historical romance filled with all kinds of factoids about the man behind the myth. Definitely a goth romance.
The author seems to have done her research. Vlad is presented as a human with human problems Love, war, scheming enemies, loyal friends. His attempts to be a fair ruler are often undermined by greedy friends.
This book was an unusual deviation for me, but I occasionally get in the mood for historical fiction, and lately I've watched a ton of old Dracula movies, so I was drawn in by this title.
Lots of betrayal and secrets scattered throughout this gothic tale, kept my interest although I did have to stop reading sometimes to get the hairs on my neck to go down. We are dealing with Dracula's descendant, so we expect dark eeriness and lifeless bodies, but author Stefanescu wove an unusual story together that keeps readers intrigued despite its gory details.
I appreciated the character, Angela, being a brave woman. Every novel needs one. But I almost jumped out of my skin during her exploits and going out into the dark evenings might become more rare for me.
I was drawn to this book by the title, and it did not disappoint. The author’s exceptional descriptions of the characters, clothing and décor for that time period really brought the story to life. Vlad is a ruthless, cunning character who displays no mercy when his enemies in his court kill a woman under his protection. Young and naïve Angela, despite her mother’s warnings, falls in love with Vlad. The two are immediately attracted to each other from their first meeting at a festival in the palace.
The author has expertly merged action, romance, treachery and horror in this well-told historical story with a very unique twist about Dracula. This is an outstanding, engaging read!
